This would be my blog. I guess this is the page where I put a ton of personal information. Like what a major geek I am that I run have my own blog. I guess that’s about enough. I guess I’m only expecting my family and friends to check out this blog so I guess there’s not much to put here since they all know me …

One quick note on the name of the site: The Nixnerd. Without going into too much detail about the history of computers and operating systems, UNIX was an operating system from AT&T and has evolved into a standard that other operating systems try to model. If an OS developer wants to go through all the hoops they can have their OS stamped officially as a UNIX OS (such as Solaris and Mac OS X Server). Other operating systems that aren’t official UNIX OS’s are referred to as “UNIX like” or “*NIX.”

I believe that a UNIX or *NIX operating system is the best for any job (don’t get me started on what a P.O.S. the other operating system developed by a software company in Redmond, WA is) … you just have to find “the right *NIX” for the job. Sometimes it’s one of the dozens of GNU/Linux OS’s, sometimes Solaris, sometimes Mac OS X or NeXTSTEP. In any case, I have used more than 10 different *NIX OS’s in my professional career and consider myselfe a *NIX nerd … thus, nixnerd.

Another take on the name is the fact that my wife’s name is Nicole and I am her nerd; thus, Nic’s nerd.
