Off to Fruita!
Today we’re hitting the road for two weeks! We’re going to drive to Fruita, CO, and stay there for a night or two in a hotel. From there, we’ll drive down through Moab, UT and find a couple of spots to camp on our way to Sedona, AZ, where we’ll meet up with Nikki’s family to stay at a nice resort, The Sedona Summit, for a week. We’re stoked for a two week vacation as we haven’t done this. Most of our vacations are only about ten days.
We didn’t leave as early as we expected for a few reasons. First, we had to get a cheap stroller (an “umbrella stroller”). I picked one up from Super Target but it turned out to be quite expensive for its quality. Nikki did some research (she is so good a that
and found a much better stroller over at Babies R Us for about 2/3 the price. We had to take the one I bought back to Super Target then hit Babies R Us on our way out of town.
Also on our way out of town we went to Kaiser because, while we were packing up the FJ, Zaiden clonked himself and got a nasty little cut under his eye with a bruise. We called the nurses and they said we need to bring him in to check his vision. Apparently, this is just what they do when a child gets a bruise near the eye. When we got there, they told us it would be an hour and a half wait! Luckily, the guy at the front desk said we could go ask one of the nurses if she thought it was really necessary. She said it wasn’t because you can’t test a baby’s vision. The child has to be able to cover one eye and recognize photos (dog, cat, etc.). He wasn’t in any pain and his vision seemed to be OK so we shuffled off down the road.
We got to Fruita very late (around 10:00) and it took us about an hour to get settled because we didn’t want to leave our bikes on the FJ (despite being locked) nor the items we had on top of the FJ on the roof rack. Then Zaiden decided it would be a good time to start playing. We assumed it would be a little difficult to get him to sleep due to the new surroundings and all. Eventually he fell asleep and we did, too.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos, yet. I usually take a picture of us before we leave but I forgot this time. Total bummer!
