Washington DC - Site Seeing
We got up this morning after a wonderful night’s sleep. Zaiden slept from about 8 until 3, then until 7. It was awesome! I’m so proud of him!
We fed the boy breakfast then mosied down to the hotel’s restaurant and had a huge breakfast and decided to go for a quick walk before hitting the sites. During our walk, we realized how close we are to the APHA conference. We went on over to get Nikki registered and she went to find where her station is going to be, tomorrow, while I kept the boy asleep. Next, back to the hotel to get all ready for some site seeing. Of course I have a very special T-Shirt to wear in Washington DC — it has a head shot of both George H. Bush and his son, George W. Bush. Underneath the two shots are the words, “Dumb and Dumber.”
We were planning on taking Zaiden to the usual DC sites (i.e. “The Mall”). We had one thing to take care of first. Basically, I wanted to take Zaiden to perform his first act of social dissidence. In short, an obscene finger gesture towards a certain president’s (yes, lowercase ‘p’) bedroom! You can see this picture on the left, there. His finger may be little but the intent is clear!
Ah. Now we can be off to see the sites. On our way to The Mall, Nikki suggested we take a quick side trip to see the Einstein Memorial. Excellent idea! She had the wonderful idea to take a picture of Zaiden sitting in his lap — but he was stone cold asleep by the time we got there (Zaiden, not Einstein). We didn’t want to wake him up for a silly picture (although, if he was asleep when we got to the White House I would have had a different way of looking at things!), so Nikki just snapped a couple of me with the big brain.
From there we went to the Lincoln Memorial. I was hoping to take a picture of Zaiden, sitting on the floor looking up at the huge statue of Lincoln, but he was still asleep. So, we just decided to take some pictures of the Washington Memorial across the reflection pool. It was just a beautiful day for such a photo so I took a couple. We positioned Zaiden so we could take a picture of him (asleep) in front of the monument. Then, we took a stroll along the pool to the WWII memorial where we took a few more photos if Zaiden (asleep) at that monument. Even asleep, he’s so cute! Doh!
Tonight, we met Carol Poole for dinner. Nikki used to work for Carol at DCJ (Division of Criminal Justice) until two things happened: Nikki left for Arapahoe House and Carol went to work for BJA (Bureau of Justice Assistance). She and her husband moved out here, to DC, several months ago and plan on staying for a few years. It was wonderful to see her and catch up on her and her husband’s activities.
