It’s an FJ!

Filed under: FJ (DitR) — tburrell @ 7:48 pm

MAN this is a good lookinIt’s been a long 9 … weeks. Nikki and I have been patient. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, there were good times, and bad. But the long wait and difficult trials and tribulations of our arduous task are all finally over. We’re please to announce … after 4 LONG hours of papework, it’s an FJ.

I love this vehicle. I’ve seen black ones driving around but never actually sat in one until we drove away from the dealership. The interior is awesome (FJ’s have panels inside that match the exterior color, so my interior is all black). I got the manual b/c it has full-time four wheel drive, a 3″ OME suspension lift with 33″ tires, the rock rails, skid plate, ATC (Active Traction Control), a locking rear differential, and a host of other goodies. This is going to be the vehicle Nikki and I will bring our son home from the hospital in, take all of us on family trips, drive Zaiden to his (basketball) games, and all types of other fun, family adventures. Hopefully, it’ll last us 250K+ miles … Can’t wait! :)

First Baby Class …

Filed under: Zaiden Levi — tburrell @ 9:30 pm

Nikki and I went to our first “Parents over 30″ class. Basically a welcome and a few little things about birthing and contractions and such. They use ice to simulate pain to give you a feel of how to handle contractions. Hold the ice in your hand and squeeze it for the duration of a contraction. Obviously, it isn’t at all what a contraction feels like but it allows you to feel pain and start coming up with techniques to deal with it. Nikki and I came up with a few things that we think are going to help out with the birthing process:

  • Music — We’re going to set up some playlists on her iPod to bring to the hospital
  • Focusing on the pain — Nikki feels that she is going to handle the pain if she kinda focuses on it until the contraction is complete.
  • Squeezing my hand

Just some stuff that we should keep in mind when the big day arrives. :)

The Beast is for Sale

Filed under: The Beast — tburrell @ 5:53 pm

This is a picture of The Beast after getting it all cleaned up and ready to be sold.*sigh*. It’s been a great truck but it’s time to put it up for sale. There’s no room for a baby seat unless you put it in the front seat. If I do that, then I have to turn off the passenger side air bag and if I do that, well, then Nikki wouldn’t be very well protected. Total bummer.

On the bright side, though, I’ll be getting my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser later this week. Woot woot!

Update @ 9:08 pm: Here is the craigslist listing.

First Entry

Filed under: Family — tburrell @ 12:09 pm

Honeymoon - Isla MujeresWell, I’m almost done getting this blog all set up the way I want it. I’m using the WordPress blogging engine and Gallery2 for image galleries. The wpg2 gallery plugin works pretty well. I just have to finish getting things configured, get a better look and feel, configure users to be able to view this, and I’m set. All ready for the baby to join us so our family can see pictures (videos, maybe?). Schweet …
